Michael Bette

Michael Bette (* 1942 in Poznan ) is a German painter and draftsman .

Life

Michael Bette grew up in Düsseldorf and studied painting from 1964 to 1969 at the University of Fine Arts in Düsseldorf.

Even before his studies he had contact with Otto Piene and Heinz Mack , the founders of the artist group ZERO . As a teenager he took drawing courses from Otto Piene and was involved in his light ballet. At the university, Bette became a master student of Gerhard Hoehme , a representative of Informel .

After graduating, he was a fellow of the British Council for Advanced Studies at Hornsey College in London. This was followed by stays abroad, in 1976 as a winner of the Villa Romana Prize and in 1978 as a scholarship holder at the Cité Internationale des Arts Paris . In 1982 he won the Villa Massimo Prize in Rome and during this time was also a professor at the International John Cabot College in Rome.

In 1992 he received a professorship for Artistic Basics at the Potsdam University of Applied Sciences, where he taught until 2011. In 2001 and 2002 he was visiting professor at Nanyang Polytechnic in Singapore.

Michale Bette lives and works in Berlin.
