Michael Brecht (born July 2, 1965 in Forbach (Baden) ) is a German trade unionist . He has been a member of the Supervisory Board of Daimler AG since July 1, 2012 and its Deputy Chairman since May 1, 2014. He has been Chairman of the General Works Council since April 2, 2014.

Life

From 1980 Michael Brecht completed an apprenticeship as a car mechanic at Daimler-Benz in Gaggenau. This was followed by various further training measures , including becoming a REFA clerk. In 2011 he completed a part-time course at the Malik Management Center in St. Gallen as a Master of Management. From 1981 onwards, Brecht was a member of the youth and trainee representation at the Mercedes-Benz plant in Gaggenau and in 1985 was elected chairman of the group-wide youth and trainee representation. He has been a member of the works council at the Gaggenau plant since 1990 and has been its chairman since 1998.

Michael Brecht commented on his salary in July 2019 as part of a survey among the chairmen of the works council of all 30 DAX companies, which was carried out on behalf of the Wirtschaftswoche magazine , and stated that he received “significantly less than 200,000 euros” in 2018.

In an interview with the Automobilwoche newspaper in July 2019, he campaigned very strongly for the electric drive train (eATS) to be manufactured at Daimler AG as part of the transformation to electromobility and emphasized the need for a cell factory in Germany.

Michael Brecht has sharply criticized right-wing activities at the main plant in Stuttgart-Untertürkheim. He responded publicly to a video by the Zentrum Automobil group , which found its way into the media at the end of July 2019.

In addition to his work as an employee representative, he has various voluntary functions in the municipal and trade union area.
