Michael Breitbach

Michael Breitbach (* 1947 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a lawyer and former German basketball player . In 1975 he won the German championship with the team of the Giessen men's gymnastics club (MTV 1846).

Life

After graduating from high school in Frankfurt, Michael Breitbach studied law at the universities of Frankfurt and Heidelberg from 1966 to 1971 . He passed the first state examination in law in Frankfurt / Main in 1971 and then worked at the Law Faculty of the Justus Liebig University in Giessen (JLU). After passing the second state examination in 1975, he worked there as a research assistant until 1980.

From 1981 to 1982 he worked as a lawyer, after which he taught until 1989 as a technical college teacher at the Wiesbaden Administrative College . In 1989 he moved to the JLU administration as a consultant, and in 1992 he was appointed head of the central and legal department. In December 1992 he took over part of the duties of the Chancellor in acting representation. From 1995 until his retirement in 2014 he was Chancellor of the University of Giessen.

Athletic career

Breitbach first played for GW Frankfurt in the 1st basketball league , later under the coach Hannes Neumann at USC Heidelberg , before joining MTV 1846 Gießen in 1971  .

In the 1974/75 season he was the captain of the team that won the fourth German championship title for MTV.

engagement

Since 2004, Breitbach has headed the “Performance-based distribution of funds and target agreements” working group of the German university chancellors. He was active on the board of the Informationsdienst Wissenschaft eV and has been chairman of the Upper Hessian History Association since 1991 .
