Michael Bruce Ross (born July 26, 1959 in Putnam , Connecticut , † May 13, 2005 in Somers , Connecticut) aka " The Connecticut Serial Killer " was an American serial killer who raped and murdered at least eight young women between 1981 and 1984 . His execution was the first in Connecticut in 45 years.

Series of murders

On May 12, 1981, he committed his first sex murder of 25-year-old student Dzung Ngoc Tu, who was found dead in a ravine in Ithaca , New York . On January 5, 1982, he abducted 17-year-old Tammy Williams, who was on her way home from her boyfriend in Brooklyn, Connecticut. She was raped and strangled a short time later and found not far from where she disappeared. On March 1, 1982, he offered the 16-year-old student Paula Perrera to drive her to her boyfriend's after a party, whereupon she got into his vehicle. 18 days later, her severely abused and strangled body was found off Route 211 in Wallkill, New York. On June 15, 1982, he raped and strangled 23-year-old Debra Smith Taylor near Danielson, Connecticut while she was walking along the roadside looking for a gas station. Her skeletonized body was found by a jogger just under four months later. On November 19, 1983, he raped and strangled 19-year-old hitchhiker Robin Stavinsky in Norwich , Connecticut. Her remains were found by joggers a week later. On April 22, 1984, Ross committed his first double murder of 14-year-old April Brunias and her 14-year-old friend Leslie Shelley. The two girls were on their way to see a friend in Griswold , Connecticut when he kidnapped them, brutally raped and murdered them. On June 13, 1984, he raped and strangled 17-year-old Wendy Baribeault in Lisbon, Connecticut while she was on her way to a grocery store. Her body was discovered a few days later.

Arrest and conviction

After witnesses testified that Wendy Baribeault was followed by a slim, white man with glasses and a blue Toyota the day she went missing , investigators drew up a list of all of the 3,600 locally registered blue Toyotas whose owners could match the description. Coincidentally, the first on the list was Michael Ross, who was interviewed on June 28, 1984. Shortly thereafter, he confessed to having murdered the eight young women, which has also been proven. He was sentenced to death on July 6, 1987 and executed by lethal injection on May 13, 2005 at the Osborn Correctional Institution in Somers, Connecticut .
