Michael Cecil, 8th Marquess of Exeter

William Michael Anthony Cecil, 8th Marquess of Exeter (born September 1, 1935 ) is a British peer , businessman , lecturer and politician .

life and career

Cecil was born on September 1, 1935, the son of William Cecil, 7th Marquess of Exeter , and his first wife Edith Lilian Csanady de Telegd († 1954). He attended Eton College . He later worked as a lecturer and businessman. He is the author of several books.

Cecil was active in the Emissaries of Divine Light Church and took over its international leadership after the death of his father. He is currently Co-Director of the Ashland Institute in Ashland , Oregon , where he also lives and worked as a rancher (as of 2003).

Cecil is currently not a member of the Hereditary Peerage Association .

Membership in the House of Lords

When his father died in January 1988, he inherited the title of Marquess of Exeter and the then associated seat in the House of Lords . There he sat as a crossbencher . He first took his seat on April 26, 1989. He gave his inaugural address on May 16, 1990 on the subject of social and cultural cooperation in Europe .

He lost his seat through the House of Lords Act 1999 . He did not run for elections for one of the remaining seats.

He is not listed in the Register of Hereditary Peers , which are available for by-election.

family

Cecil married Nancy Rose Meeker, daughter of Lloyd Arthur Meeke, on May 3, 1967. They divorced in 1992. They have two children together. The daughter Lady Angela Kathleen Cecil died in 2008. The son, Anthony John Cecil, Lord Burghley (* 1970) is apparent .

On February 24, 1999, Cecil married Barbara Anne Coffman, daughter of Eugene Magat, for the second time.
