Michael Clausen

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Michael Clausen (* 1948 ) is a German computer scientist and mathematician and lecturer at the University of Bonn .

Clausen studied mathematics, physics and computer science and received his doctorate in mathematics summa cum laude under Adalbert Kerber at the University of Bayreuth in 1979 (letter-place algebras and a characteristic-free approach to representation theory of symmetrical and full linear groups). He completed his habilitation in computer science in Karlsruhe and taught in Aachen, Bayreuth, Zurich and Karlsruhe before becoming professor of computer science in Bonn in 1989.

Among other things, he dealt with representation theory of symmetrical groups, computer algebra, complexity theory (including with regard to the Fourier transform), signal processing, digital music libraries, multimedia databases. He is co-author of a monograph on algebraic complexity theory in the basic teaching series.

From 2004 he was chairman of the Philharmonic Choir of the City of Bonn.
