Michael Corsten

Michael Corsten (born March 14, 1961 in Mönchengladbach ) is a German sociologist .

From 1982 to 1988 he studied sociology , economics , economic and social history and philosophy in Marburg and Bielefeld . After graduating, Michael Corsten worked as a research assistant at the University of Marburg, where he received his doctorate in 1991. From 1991 Corsten worked as a research assistant at the Max Planck Institute for Human Development and completed his habilitation in 1997 at the Free University of Berlin . In 2002 he completed a post-doctoral qualification at the University of Jena .

Michael Corsten has been a professor at the Institute for Social Sciences at the University of Hildesheim since 2008 .

His work and research focus is on a biography and résumé-oriented analysis of processes of professional socialization ("The Cultivation of Professional Action Styles", 1998), the relationship between individuality and intimacy ("Das Ich und Liebe", 1993), and participation in forms the civil and civil society ("Quellen bürgerschaftlichen Engagements", 2008) and on topics of knowledge and culture ("Karl Mannheims Kultursoziologie, 2010"). In "Basic Questions of Sociology" (2011) he goes beyond the specialist audience to an audience interested in social science, in order to systematize related problems of sociology in a new way.
