Berthold Hinz

Berthold Hinz (born July 6, 1941 in Königsberg in East Prussia ) is a German art historian.

Life

After fleeing East Prussia in 1945, Hinz attended elementary school in Lübeck . His grammar school was the Schalke grammar school in Gelsenkirchen , where he graduated from high school in 1961. After serving in the Bundeswehr , he studied art history , history and philosophy in Kiel, Mainz, Bonn and Münster . In 1969 he received his doctorate in Münster with the work The Portrait of a Married Couple - Its History from the 15th to the 17th Century . He completed his habilitation at the University of Hamburg .

Hinz began his scientific work in 1970 in Berlin at the State Museums (Prussian Cultural Heritage) , after which he was a scientific tutor at the Free University in what was then West Berlin. The Art History Institute of the University of Frankfurt am Main employed him first as a research assistant and then as a university lecturer from 1971 to 1974.

At the end of 1974 Hinz became a professor of art studies at the University of Education in West Berlin and from 1980 at the Berlin University of the Arts . Since the end of 1989, Hinz has been Professor of General Art History at the Kassel University of Art / Kassel University .
