Michael Denner (born November 5, 1958 ) is a Danish guitarist . Denner became known as a member of the bands Mercyful Fate and King Diamond .

Career

Denner began playing the guitar at the age of eleven , after hearing the music of Led Zeppelin for the first time . Influenced by Uli Jon Roth and Michael Schenker , Denner joined the cover band Starchaser in 1978 , which plays songs by UFO and Kiss . During a performance at school, Denner was discovered by Hank Shermann (bourgeois René Krolmark), who brought Denner to his band Brats . After a short time Denner left the band Brats and founded the band Danger Zone, which only released two demos .

After Denner learned from Sherman that King Diamond (real name Kim Bendix Pedersen) would be the new singer of the bands Brats, Denner returned to this band, which became Mercyful Fate. After Mercyful Fate broke up in 1985, Denner was a member of King Diamond's solo band, but left this band after the album Abigail . Then Denner founded the band Zoser Mez together with Hank Sherman , who only released one album.

In 1992, Mercyful Fate reformed. After three studio albums, Denner left the band again in 1996 because his newborn son was born with an autistic disability . In the mid-2000s, Denner belonged to the band Force of Evil , who released two studio albums. In addition, Denner appeared several times as a guest musician. For example, in 2008 he played a guitar solo on the song "7 Shots" on the Volbeat album Beyond Hell / Above Heaven .

In February 2015, Shermann and Denner announced that they had founded a joint project called Denner / Shermann. The band's drummer is Snowy Shaw , who was already active for Sabaton and Dimmu Borgir .

Michael Denner is married and has been running the Beat-Bop record store in Copenhagen since 1988 .
