Michael Dittrich is an Austrian conductor , music teacher and violinist .

Career

Dittrich studied violin at the Detmold and Vienna music academies . As a student he was concertmaster and deputy conductor of the Tübingen Chamber Orchestra and since 1970 a member of the Vienna Symphony Orchestra . He then became a student of the conductor Hans Swarowsky . His other teachers were Karl Österreicher , Otmar Suitner and Josef Mertin in Vienna and Franco Ferrara and Carlo Maria Giulini in Italy. He has conducted orchestras in the Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, Poland, Russia, Slovakia, Sweden and Switzerland and became principal guest conductor of the Szczecin Philharmonic in 1992 . In 1977 he founded Bella Musica , a historical performance practice ensemble, with which he toured Europe and America. In 2013 the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra invited him to perform as a guest conductor. For his CD recordings, Dittrich received several prizes, including the Grand Prix du Disque and the Diapason d'Or . In 2000 he received the Golden Cross of Honor for Science and Art . Since 2006 he has been Vice President of the Vienna Master Classes .
