Michael Donohoe (politician)

Michael Donohoe (born February 22, 1864 in Killeshandra , County Cavan , United Kingdom , †  January 17, 1958 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania ) was an American politician . Between 1911 and 1915 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Michael Donohoe attended public and private schools in his home country, Ireland . Between January 1885 and October 1886 he taught himself as a teacher. In November 1886 he emigrated to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. There he worked in the real estate industry and in the banking industry. He was also involved in the manufacture of glassware. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party .

In the 1910 congressional election , Donohoe was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the fifth constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded Republican William Walker Foulkrod on March 4, 1911 . After being re-elected, he was able to complete two legislative terms in Congress until March 3, 1915 . During this time the 16th and 17th amendments were ratified. In 1914 he was not re-elected.

Donohoe had been a director at Northwestern General Hospital since 1893 . He held this position until 1943, including during his time in Congress. He was also a curator of Temple University . Between 1919 and 1946 he worked for the City of Philadelphia as a real-estate assessor . After that, he retired. Michael Donohoe died in Philadelphia on January 17, 1958.
