Michael Fras
Michael Fras , also Pater Aurelius a San Daniele (born September 1, 1728 in Shavers, Thuringia , † March 1, 1782 in Vienna ) was a German Augustinian - Barefoot - Father (OESA) and designer of astronomical clocks .
Life
Fras initially worked as a teacher of mathematical sciences and later became a prison chaplain. Like other clergymen - commonly known as “ priest mechanics ” in professional circles - Fras, as Augustinian barefooter Aurelius , also built elaborate hall clocks in the Viennese court monastery , including an astronomical clock in 1770, which became imperial property. He had an outstanding reputation in watch and instrument making and is mentioned in literature on an equal footing with David Ruetschmann , Philipp Matthäus Hahn and Alexius Johann .
