Michael "Mike" Funk (born August 15, 1986 in Abbotsford , British Columbia ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Vancouver Canucks in the National Hockey League since 2009 .

Career

Michael Funk began his career as a hockey player with the Portland Winter Hawks , for whom he was active in the Western Hockey League from 2002 to 2006 . During this time he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2004 in the second round as the 43rd player of the Buffalo Sabers .

For the Sabers he made his debut in the National Hockey League in the 2006/07 season . During this season, the defender played a total of five games in the NHL for Buffalo, in which there were two templates. In the 2007/08 season , the left-shot was four times for Buffalo in the NHL on the ice. However, Funk spent most of his first two years in the Buffalo Sabers franchise with their farm team from the American Hockey League , the Rochester Americans . For the new AHL farm team of the Sabers, the Portland Pirates , the Canadian played only 13 games in the 2008/09 season before he was signed on July 6, 2009 by the Vancouver Canucks .

International

For Canada , Funk took part in the U18 World Junior Championship in 2004 , where he finished fourth with his team.
