Life

Nothing is known about the training of Michael Gasser, who comes from Irsing near Bad Tölz in Upper Bavaria. After three requests, he was granted citizenship in Hall on November 26, 1649 and settled there as a sculptor. Even at the beginning of his activity in Tyrol, he received larger orders and created statues and altars for several churches in the Tyrolean lowlands .

Michael Gasser follows the tradition of the Weilheim school . His works, including several Madonnas of the Patrona Bavariae type , correspond to the early Baroque in their statuesque posture and the barely bulging folds that emphasize the vertical .
