Michael Hammer (musician)

Michael Hammer (born August 9, 1982 in Aarau ) is a Swiss drummer, composer and pianist.

Michael Hammer received drum and piano lessons from an early age. During his cantonal school days he received piano lessons from Marco Käppeli and Thomas Steiner and was a member of the jazz big bands of Fritz Renold and Rolf Bürli . In 2005 he recorded his first CD "One" with jazz standards and his own compositions.

In 2005 Hammer began studying music at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts and graduated in 2011 with a master's degree. In 2006 the second CD "Boom2Boom" was created with funk-blues standards and original compositions. In 2007 a third CD followed, "Excited3" with jazz standards and original compositions. In 2009 he recorded the fourth CD "Four in New York" with his own Funk Latin compositions and in 2010 the CD "Strikes, Ups and Bends" with the big band Jazzarmonics . He has been a member of this band since 2006.

Hammer plays in different groups from duo to big band (pop, blues, funk and jazz). In addition to his work as a band leader, drummer and composer, he teaches at the Kriens music school (Lucerne). Michael Hammer was Pro Argovia Artist of the Aargau Cultural Foundation in 2011/12 .
