Michael Hemmer

Michael Hemmer (born July 18, 1962 ) is a German university professor . He works at the Institute for Geography Education in Münster.

After graduating from high school, Hemmer studied geosciences , Catholic theology and educational sciences at the Westphalian Wilhelms University from 1983 to 1989 . He then completed his legal clerkship at the Detmold Berleburg study seminar until 1991 . After that he was assistant at the professorship for didactics of geography at the Catholic University of Eichstätt until 2000. In 1996 he received his doctorate and in 2000 he completed his habilitation. As a part-time job, he worked from 1992 to 1994 at the Willibald High School in Eichstätt and from 1996 to 1997 at the Maria Ward Realschule Eichstätt. Since October 1, 2000, he has been a university professor for geography didactics at the Westphalian Wilhelms University of Münster.

His main research interests include geographical education, geographical student interest, spatial orientation skills, teacher professionalism and teacher professionalization in the subject of geography, excursion didactics, geography-didactic educational media research and geography didactics.
