Michael Karl Hoch (born October 21, 1961 in Singen ) is a German developmental biologist and has been Rector of the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn since 2015 .

Life

Michael Hoch studied biology from 1983 to 1989 as a scholarship holder of the German National Academic Foundation in Heidelberg and Paris. After receiving his doctorate in Munich in 1992 with his dissertation Molecular studies on the regulation of cripple, a segmentation gene from Drosophila melanogaster (Meigen) , he obtained the venia legendi at the Technical University of Braunschweig in 1996 . From 1992 to 1994 he was a postdoc and from 1994 to 1998 group leader at the Max Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry in Göttingen. Since 1999 he has been Professor of Molecular Developmental Biology at the University of Bonn . From 2006 to 2015 he was founding director at the LIMES Institute at the University of Bonn. Since May 2015 he has been the 143rd Rector of the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn.
