Michael Hotzan

Michael Hotzan (born January 6, 1961 in Fürstenwalde ) is a former German cyclist and national champion in cycling .

Athletic career

Hotzan began his cycling career in 1972 in the BSG Pneumant Fürstenwalde . In 1974 he moved to ASK Vorwärts Frankfurt an der Oder and there in 1976 became a member of the local support group for rail sprinters . He also won his first championship title in 1976, in the sprint at the GDR championship in youth class B. In 1978 he became GDR champion in youth A class and was then nominated for the UCI-Bahn World Championships for Juniors . There he won the silver medal in his specialty discipline in the sprint. In 1979 he won the GDR championships in sprint and 1000-meter time trial in his age group . He became a member of the national team of the GDR and also took part in some Grand Prix competitions, where he was able to win the Sofia Grand Prix in 1980 . Compared to the top class of sprinters in the GDR such as Michael Huebner or Lutz Heßlich , however, he was unable to prevail. In 1982 he ended his career.

Professional

After the end of his career, he worked as a mechanic and trainer in his club.
