from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Michael Karas (* 1952 in Wesel ) is a German scientist in the field of physical chemistry and full professor who became known for his research on matrix-assisted laser desorption / ionization .

Life

Michael Karas studied chemistry at the University of Bonn , where he received his doctorate in physical chemistry in 1982 . From 1983 to 1986 he was part of Prof. Franz Hillenkamp's group at the Institute for Biophysics at the University of Frankfurt . In 1987 he followed Hillenkamp to Münster and the two took over positions at the Medical Faculty of the University of Münster . Karas had already started developing MALDI technology in 1984 in Frankfurt . In 1992 he completed his habilitation in physical chemistry. In 1995 he followed a call to Frankfurt and returned to the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University. Here he got a job as a professor for instrumental analytical chemistry. In 2001 he moved to the Institute for Pharmaceutical Chemistry. Today he is still working on the further development of the technology he founded.
