Michael Kasper (historian, 1980)

Michael Kasper (* 1980 in Mürzzuschlag ) is an Austrian historian , archivist and museum director.

Career

Kasper was born in Mürzzuschlag and grew up in Gortipohl in the Montafon ( Vorarlberg ). From 1990 to 1998 he attended the Bludenz Federal High School . He then graduated from the University of Innsbruck , the teacher training programs History, Social Studies and Political Education , Geography and Economics and Catholic religion and graduated in 2006 and 2008 respectively with the graduation phil. Mag. from. In his diploma thesis he dealt with a Montafon tax book from the 17th century.

From 2007 to 2011 Kasper taught at various higher schools in Tyrol and Vorarlberg ( HAK / HAS Feldkirch , Akademisches Gymnasium Innsbruck , HTL Imst ). At the same time, he has been working in various functions as a tutor, study assistant and research assistant at the Institute for Geography, the Institute for Practical Theology and the Institute for History and European Ethnology at the University of Innsbruck since 2006 . He has been working as a freelance historian since 2002 and has implemented various projects in South Tyrol, Tyrol and Vorarlberg.

In 2011, Kasper moved to Stand Montafon as head of cultural studies and has since been responsible for the Montafon museums , the Montafon archive and various cultural-historical projects in the Montafon. His doctoral studies he graduated in 2017 with the promotion of Dr. phil. and a dissertation on rural elites in West Tyrol and Vorarlberg around 1800 in Innsbruck. Kasper has been chairman of the Montafon Heimatschutzverein since 2012 and has been a board member of the Bludenz region history association since 2008 .

His main research interests are the (social) history of rural, alpine areas in modern times, the history of the Nazi regime and the history of alpine and tourism. Regionally, his focus is on Tyrol, Vorarlberg and the surrounding areas.
