Michael Dominik Konkel (* 1969 in Düsseldorf ) is a German Roman Catholic theologian and exegete of the Old Testament .

Studies and academic career

Konkel graduated from the University of Bonn with a degree in theology , philosophy and German in 1994 . In 2000 , the Catholic Theological Faculty there earned him a doctorate. theol. The title of his dissertation, which was supervised by Frank-Lothar Hossfeld , is “Architectural Design of the Holy. Studies on the second temple vision of Ezekiel (Ez 40–48) ”. In 2006, he completed his habilitation as part of the DFG project "The non-priestly Sinaiperikope (Ex 19-24; 32-34) as a test case of the Pentateuch criticism," which Konkel directed from 2004 to 2006. In 2008, Konkel took over the chair for the Old Testament at the Theological Faculty in Paderborn .

In addition, Konkel has been teaching the subject “Introduction to the Old Testament” at the Studienhaus St. Lambert since 2006.

research

One focus of Konkel's research is on the biblical book of Ezekiel , for which Konkel is currently working on a commentary. The portrayal of the Jerusalem temple in this book and the theological concepts related to this topic such as “purity” or “holiness” are of particular interest . Another pillar of Michael Konkel's research is the Pentateuch criticism, that is, the investigation of the origin, development and meaning of the Torah .
