Frank-Lothar Hossfeld

Frank-Lothar Hossfeld (born June 19, 1942 in Metz , France , † November 2, 2015 in Bonn ) was a Roman Catholic theologian . He was one of the leading Old Testament biblical scholars in Germany.

Life

Frank-Lothar Hossfeld studied from 1961 to 1966 Catholic Theology at the University of Trier and received 1966 in Trier the priesthood and was a priest of the diocese of Trier. From 1967 to 1969 he worked as a chaplain in Herdorf / Sieg. From 1969 to 1973 he was a doctoral student at the University of Regensburg , then until 1976 research assistant at the seminar for biblical contemporary history and biblical auxiliary sciences at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster. In 1976 he was at the University of Regensburg with the thesis "Studies on composition and theology of the book of Ezekiel " to Dr. theol. PhD . In 1981 he completed his habilitation at the University of Regensburg in the subject of Exegesis of the Old Testament. The subject of the habilitation thesis was: “The Decalogue. Its late versions, the original composition and its preliminary stages ”.

From 1982 to 2009 he was professor for Old Testament science at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn. He was Managing Director of the Catholic Theological Faculty (1984–1986) and Dean (1986–1988) and Vice Dean (1986–1990) of the Catholic Theological Faculty of Bonn University. From 1998 to 2004 he was electoral senator at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn.

Act

In recent years, Hossfeld has mainly worked in psalm research . The psalm commentary, which was created in collaboration with Erich Zenger ( Münster ), is outstanding . So far, two volumes have appeared in the series “Herder's Theological Commentary on the Old Testament”. Since the beginning of 2010 he has been the head of a project funded by the German Research Foundation on "Theology of the Psalter" at the University of Bonn.

Frank Lothar Hossfeld was a specialist advisor for the third edition of the Lexicon for Theology and Church in the area of ​​the Old Testament. Until 2009 he was co-editor of the Bonn Biblical Contributions (BBB) and co-editor of the Stuttgart Biblical Contributions (SBB) . From 1992 to 1999 he was a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Catholic Bible Works (KBW) in Stuttgart; from 2000 to 2008 he was chairman of the KBW. He was a member of the German Ecumenical Study Committee ( Working Group of Christian Churches in Germany ) from 1984 to 2012 and since 1990 a member of the Ecumenical Working Group of Protestant and Catholic Theology (ÖAK).

From 1992 to 1999 he was a member of the graduate school “Intercultural Religious and Religious History Studies” under the direction of Hans Waldenfels from the Fundamental Theological Seminar of Catholic Theol. Faculty of the University of Bonn. From 1999 to 2005 he was a sub-project leader at the Collaborative Research Center 534 “Judaism - Christianity.
