Career
Michael Kuonen was brought into bobsleigh in 2014 by bobsleigh pilot Clemens Bracher. At Bracher, Kuonen drove as a pusher for four years.
In the 2016/17 season, Kuonen drove the world championship in 2-man bobsleigh with pilot Beat Hefti and in 4-man bobsleigh with pilot Rico Peter on the instructions of the Swiss Bobsleigh Association . In both races, the result was a 15th place finish. At the 2017 European Championships, Kuonen finished ninth with pilot Beat Hefti.
Kuonen won his first two-man bobsleigh World Cup race with driver Clemens Bracher in Winterberg in the 2017/18 season. One week later, Bracher / Kuonen won the silver medal at the European Championships in Innsbruck.
Kuonen founded its own bobsleigh team in 2018 after the PyeongChang Olympics. In his first season as a bobsleigh pilot, he was already on the podium in the European Cup and was vice-Swiss champion in both the 2 and 4 bobsleighs.
