Rico Peter (born September 13, 1983 in Luthern , Canton of Lucerne ) is a Swiss bobsleigh athlete .
Career
Rico Peter started bobsleigh in 2003 as a pusher and made his debut as a pilot in 2005. After financial difficulties, his team competed in the 2007/08 season as a member of the Zurich Bob Club and after further restructuring it was accepted into the high-potential squad of the Swiss Bobsleigh Federation. This was followed by the international premiere in the European Cup in the 2008/09 season , where Peter achieved his first single-digit results in St. Moritz . In the following two winters, Rico Peter started in the European Cup and was there several times in the top 10 in both the two-man and four-man bobsleigh. In February 2011, he started the world championships in Königssee for the first time , but was not yet able to place in the top 20 .
In the 2011/12 season Rico Peter made his debut in the World Cup with 16th places in two and four in Igls . His best result of the season was a 13th place in the four in Altenberg . In January 2012 he also won a race in the European Cup for the first time in the four-man bobsleigh in St. Moritz . In the following season he reached his first top 10 placements in the World Cup , including a sixth place in the foursome in La Plagne . At the 2013 home World Cup in St. Moritz, Rico Peter also finished sixth in the four-man bobsleigh; in two he reached eleventh and in team competition tenth. In the 2013/14 season he started again in the European Cup , where he won the two-man race in Winterberg , and also achieved fifth place in the small sled at the World Cup in Königssee, which meant winning the silver medal at the European Championship . In the Olympic Games of Sochi , he went in twos with brakeman Juerg Egger at the start and finished tenth.
In the 2014/15 World Cup , Rico Peter achieved his first podium finishes with a third place each in the two-man and four-man bobsleigh as well as his first World Cup victory with Simon Friedli in a two-man in Sochi. In the overall standings he achieved single-digit results in 14 of the 16 races of the season, third place in the two-man rankings, sixth in the four-man rankings and fifth in the combined rankings. He also won bronze at the European Championships in La Plagne in a pair with Bror van der Zijde . He finished the world championship in Winterberg on ranks 6 and 7. In the 2015/16 World Cup , Peter established himself at the top of the world in the four-man bobsleigh with three third places in Königssee and Park City . In a pair he celebrated his second World Cup victory with Thomas Amrhein in Whistler at the same time as the Korean duo Won / Seo and only a hundredth of a second ahead of Kasjanow / Pushkarev . At the 2016 Bobsleigh World Championships in Igls, he finished tenth in the two-man bobsleigh and won his first world championship medal with bronze in the big sled. At the beginning of the 2016/17 World Cup season , Peter finished second in both sledges in Whistler before he achieved his first World Cup victory in the four-man bobsleigh in Lake Placid .
Rico Peter is a trained landscape gardener and now works as a chauffeur for a transport company in the summer .
