Between 1963 and 1969, around 200 paintings, drawings and gouaches were created in a completely unique visual language. These include the "speech bubble images" and "distorted images". In the field of tension between the abstraction that prevailed after 1945 and the newly burgeoning Pop Art , these show the human figure distorted and deformed in various ways. Similar to his friend, the painter Uwe Lausen , the bright colors are related to the visual aesthetics of comics . After 1969 he made experimental films, after which he wrote books on art theory. Langer did not begin to paint again until the 1990s. Here he extends the expressive objectivity from the figure to the object and chooses a more reserved color scheme. The importance of his work, especially the completed early phase, is increasingly appreciated and shown more frequently from 1989 onwards. In 2014 Langer was presented with several pictures in the Schirn-Kunsthalle Frankfurt as part of the exhibition "German Pop".
