Michael Lierz

Michael Walter Lierz (* 1971 in Korschenbroich ) is a German veterinarian .

Life

Lierz studied veterinary medicine at the University of Veterinary Medicine in Hanover from 1990 to 1996 . Under Leo Brunnberg , he obtained his doctorate in 1999 on "Investigations into the spectrum of diseases found in birds of prey and owls in Berlin and Brandenburg." In 2009, he completed his habilitation at the Free University of Berlin on: "Occurrence and significance of mycoplasma in birds of prey." Birds, reptiles, amphibians and fish at the Justus Liebig University in Giessen and since April 2018 Vice President for Scientific Infrastructure.

  • 1997 Award of the German Agricultural Society for the best 10 veterinary graduating students of 1996
  • 2005 Ursula and Heinz-Georg Klös Foundation Award of the DVG (Young Talent Award) for special scientific achievements in the field of zoo and wild animal diseases
  • 2008 Publication Prize from the British Veterinary Zoological Society for the best English-language publication (area zoo animal medicine) of the year
