Michael Mayer (* 20th century in Hamburg ) is a German punk guitarist and singer. He is best known as a founding member of Slime . His nickname is " Elf ", under which he operates on numerous publications. He also founded numerous other bands and was a long-time member of Abwärts and Die Mimmi’s .

Life

Michael Mayer grew up as the son of a Bundeswehr officer and a secretary. He attended the Heidberg high school in the Hamburg district of Langenhorn , where he also graduated from high school. There he came into contact with political music through clay stones and was musically influenced by the Ramones . When the punk wave spilled over to Germany, he founded Slime in 1979 with his school friends Sven "Eddie" Räther and Peter "Ball" Wodok. With Slime he recorded three studio albums and one live album before the band split up in 1984. With Räther and the Buttocks bassist Stephen Larsson, who replaced Stephan Mahler at Slime in 1984, he founded the short-lived band Targets .

After the dissolution, he founded the band Igel United together with slime singer Dirk Jora in 1985 , which performed regularly in the vicinity of a Hamburg pub. In 1987 Frank Ziegert (Frank Z.) met him from Abwärts there. Together with him he recorded five albums until the dissolution in 1996, partly parallel to his activities with the reunited Slime.

From 1990 to 1994 Slime existed again and released the two albums Viva la Muerte (1992) and Schweinherbst (1994). Commercial success set in for the first time. After the renewed dissolution in 1994, Mayer first lived on the royalties, then he founded the band Elf named after him . In 1998 the short-lived project CIA followed. He then tried unsuccessfully as an Internet entrepreneur and later worked for the Belgian independent label Play It Again Sam Records . He then moved to the country and played in the band Minne and the Minnies , who mix children's songs with rock & roll . In 2003 he founded the slime sequel Rubberslime with Jora and members of the band Rubbermaids , but they split up again in a dispute in 2005. The next station was Die Mimmi's, with whom he is still active today.

Private life

Mayer is in a relationship with the bassist Nici, whom he met at Die Mimmi's and whom he brought to Slime.
