Michael S. Medved (born October 3, 1948 in Philadelphia ) is an American conservative talk radio host and author, as well as a former film critic. His weekday broadcast is widely distributed in the US by the conservative evangelical Salem Radio Network .

Life

Michael Medved was born in Philadelphia to Renate (nee Hirsch) and David Bernard Medved. His father was a scientist and a veteran in the US Navy. He grew up in a Jewish family home; his parents' families came from Germany and the Ukraine. Michael Medved grew up in San Diego, where his father worked for Convair and NASA. After the family moved to Los Angeles, he attended Palisades High School and studied at Yale University when he was 16 . He graduated from Yale Law School with honors in 1969 .

Medved started his journalistic career as a film critic. His early book publications with his brother Harry Medved such as The Fifty Worst Films of All Time (1978) and The Golden Turkey Awards (1980) deal humorously with particularly bad films. His later publications take a more culturally critical reference to the film industry, such as Hollywood vs. America: Popular Culture and the War on Traditional Values (1992), in which he blames the “liberal media” for a decline in values.

Michael Medved is an Orthodox Jew and yet he is a Senior Fellow of the Christian-conservative think tank Discovery Institute .

Radio show

Medved's radio show was at times the sixth largest show in the country in terms of audience numbers. The three-hour Michael Medved Show tuned in to 3.7 million listeners. The Salem-produced show is broadcast from more than 200 stations owned by Salem and others across America.

Salem Media removed Medved's broadcast from its broadcasters' programs on the major radio mark in Dallas. Politico suspected that the reason was that Medved was one of the few conservative radio presenters to speak out against the then presidential candidate Trump.

Positions

Michael Medved was the only US-wide conservative talk host who spoke out vehemently against Donald Trump in the 2016 presidential campaign . He described Trump as "insecure, unprepared and angrily unhinged". Medved urged his listeners to deal fairly with the opposing Hillary Clinton . According to Politico, this attitude angered his production company Salem, many local affiliates, and numerous regular Salem listeners. Medved noted that it was a shame in his career that he did not jump on the "Trump Train", but he could not do otherwise because his show was not just a job.

Medved therefore did not take part in the Salem tour for the 2016 election. Salem colleagues Hzugh Hewitt, Mike Gallagher , Dennis Prager and actor Jon Voight toured the Swing States to promote Salem's conservative positions and meet their listeners.

Medved doubts climate change.
