Michael Mehlem

Michael Mehlem (born May 1, 1977 ) is an Austrian football player . His position is a defender . He is currently under contract with the Upper Austrian national league team SK Vorwärts Steyr .

Career

Michael Mehlem began his career at SV Gallneukirchen in Upper Austria . He came to LASK Linz via SK St. Magdalena , where he remained under contract for four years from 1997 to 2001 and was used both in the Bundesliga and after relegation in the First League . Between 2001 and 2003 he played for the then Bundesliga club SC Schwarz-Weiß Bregenz in Vorarlberg . A series of short-term engagements followed: he only stayed six months at SC Schwanenstadt, LASK Linz and SV Ried . In January 2007 he finally switched to SK Vorwärts Steyr .

Michael Mehlem became a tragic figure in June 2007 when Vorwärts Steyr played against Union Weißkirchen in a direct duel for the championship in the Upper Austrian Regional League East. In front of the record crowd of 7,000 spectators in the forward stadium, he missed a huge chance of victory with a score of 1: 1 in stoppage time. Weißkirchen rose, forward had to stay in the league.
