Act

As a historically oriented sociologist, Ebertz also works on the beginnings of Christianity history and the confrontation of the churches, especially the Catholic Church, with the onset of modernity in the 19th century. In his analyzes of the present he analyzes the crisis of the church in the 20th and 21st centuries in Germany and Europe. He also diagnoses the multi-dimensional church crisis as a loss of its eschatological resilience and the structural split in the unity of love for God and love of neighbor postulated by Christianity. As head of the Center for Church Social Research (ZEKIS) he empirically surveys the appearance of the churches today, e. B. the religious orientations and attitudes ("What do the Hessians believe?") And the church affiliations and church resignations.

In 1995 he received the Bad Herrenalber Academy Award / Evangelical Academy Baden and in 2003 the 15th Sexau Community Award for Theology / Baden Regional Church. For years Ebertz has been a personal member of the Central Committee of German Catholics (ZdK) , a member of the "Caritas Profile" commission of the German Caritas Association and a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Sinus Institute in Heidelberg.
