Michael Norz

Michael Norz (born February 15, 1934 in Innsbruck ) is an Austrian medalist , goldsmith and sculptor .

Life

Michael Norz was born as the second child into an old Innsbruck goldsmith family. Studied with Ferdinand Welz at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna , graduated in 1960. Master goldsmith 1962. He is married to Gertraud Norz and has five children, Johannes Norz , Birgit Hofer-Norz, Christoph Norz, Maria Schröcksnadel and Florian Norz.

Michael Norz made several designs for 25-schilling and 50-schilling coins . During his time as managing director and designer of the Norz goldsmith business in Innsbruck, Norz played a key role in shaping the very independent style of Innsbruck goldsmiths between 1965 and 1999. As a sculptor, he created the bronze interior of the Innsbruck Hospital Church as well as several fountains and sculptures in Vienna and Innsbruck.
