Michael O'Connor (born October 27, 1965 in London ) is a British costume designer .

Life

Michael O'Connor started out as a dresser at the Old Vic Theater in London and later went into business for himself. He worked as wardrobe supervisor for the films The Haunted House and Jane Austen's Emma before he became assistant costume designer and worked on Oscar and Lucinda , Quills - Power of Obsession and Signs of Life - Proof of Life .

As the main costume designer, he initially worked for smaller British film productions and gained greater fame in 2005 with the film Tom Brown's Schooldays . This was followed by the Oscar- winning film The Last King of Scotland - In the Clutches of Power, with Forest Whitaker in the lead role.

His biggest success is Saul Dibbs The Duchess . In 2009, O'Connor won an Oscar, a British Academy Film Award ( best costumes ) and a Satellite Award for best costume design for his work on this film .

In 2012 he was nominated for an Oscar for his work on Jane Eyre . 2014 received another Oscar nomination for his participation in the film The Invisible Woman .
