Michael Odenwald

Michael Odenwald (born March 6, 1958 in Karlsruhe ) is a German lawyer , former state secretary and chairman of the supervisory board of Deutsche Bahn Aktiengesellschaft .

Life

Odenwald initially studied theology at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg between 1979 and 1983 , but switched to law in 1983 . He completed his studies in Heidelberg in 1988 with the first state examination. From 1989 to 1992, Odenwald was in the legal preparatory service at the Heidelberg Regional Court . In his legal clerkship, Michael Odenwald completed a supplementary course at the University of Administrative Sciences in Speyer .

Between February 1992 and November 2002 he was a consultant at the Federal Ministry of Transport, Building and Housing . Afterwards Odenwald worked as a speaker in the CDU / CSU parliamentary group. In November 2009 he returned to the Federal Ministry and on March 1, 2010 became head of the central department.

On October 22, 2012, Odenwald was appointed State Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Transport, Building and Urban Development. From December 17, 2013, he carried out this task in the restructured Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure. With the change of government in 2017/2018, he left this position. In this function, he was sent to the Supervisory Board of Deutsche Bahn and Fraport AG . Until April 21, 2016 he was also Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Deutsche Flugicherung GmbH . From September 25, 2015, he headed the Federal Ministry of Transport's investigative commission into the VW emissions scandal .

On April 17, 2018, he was unanimously elected as the successor to Utz-Hellmuth Felcht as Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Deutsche Bahn. He has been a member of the committee since October 2012. In March 2020, his term of office was extended to 2025.

Odenwald lives in Kleinmachnow near Berlin.
