Michael Parensen (born June 24, 1986 in Bad Driburg ) is a former German soccer player .

Career

Parensen, who was born in Bad Driburg , began his playing career in neighboring Nieheim at VfL Eversen . From there he came to the youth team of Borussia Dortmund via the stations TuS Bad Driburg and SC Paderborn 07 in 2002 . In Dortmund in 2004, the defender also made the leap into the men's area, although he was only used in the second team playing in Regionalliga Nord . With BVB he was relegated to the Oberliga Westfalen in his debut season, but celebrated his return to the regional league the following year. This time the Dortmunders were able to hold the class.

Parensen moved to 1. FC Cologne after the 2006/07 season , for which he was initially used in the second team. With this he succeeded, as before with BVB, the promotion from the upper to the regional league. In the summer of 2008 he moved to the professional squad of 1. FC Köln, but left the club six months later and switched to the then third division club 1. FC Union Berlin during the winter break . In the remaining 18 games he was there regular player and helped secure promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga. The following year he stayed in the upper division on the left wing position until an inner ligament tear ended his season prematurely. In the 2010/11 season, however, his knee continued to bother him. After missing the start of the season, the inner ligament tore completely after three missions and he was only available again for the second half of the season. But then only until the beginning of April and after persistent complaints he had to undergo a knee operation. The contract with Union, which initially ran until 2013, was extended on October 27, 2011 by two years until the end of the 2014/15 season.

Parensen scored his first professional goal in the second division game between 1. FC Union and Karlsruher SC on October 15, 2011 (final score 2-0). Michael Parensen is the player with the most appearances in the 2nd Bundesliga for 1. FC Union Berlin. In the summer of 2019 he was promoted to the first Bundesliga with Union Berlin for the first time in the club's history. There he made his Bundesliga debut on matchday 8 in a 2-0 win against SC Freiburg at the age of 33. On matchday 17, he met for the first time in the top German division in the 1: 2 defeat against Fortuna Düsseldorf .

At the end of the 2019/20 season, in which he played nine more times in the 1st Bundesliga and four times in the DFB Cup, Parensen ended his active career. Since then he has been working in the association's office.

In addition, he played a total of 17 international matches in the youth national teams of the DFB .
