The TuS Bad Driburg (officially: gymnastics and sports club Bad Driburg 1893 eV ) is a sports club based in Bad Driburg in Höxter with the departments of football , badminton , volleyball , swimming and table tennis . It has 748 members (as of 2010). The table tennis women's team plays in the 1st table tennis Bundesliga in the 2018/19 season .

Club history

The club was founded on October 15, 1893 as TV Bad Driburg (TV = gymnastics club). In 1912 a football and fistball division was added , in 1919 handball and batting . In 1939 the shooting, tennis and swimming departments were added. During the Second World War , the club was idle. On October 18, 1946, it was re-established as SuS Bad Driburg with the sports of soccer, handball and athletics . In April 1946, the club merged with TV Driburg to form the new Spielverein (TuS) Bad Driburg .

A year later the club name was changed to Gymnastics and Sports Club Bad Driburg in 1893 . In 1952 the entry was made at the Brakel District Court . In 1954 the Turner split off and founded the independent association TV Jahn Bad Driburg . In 1962 the handball department dissolved. The table tennis department was founded in 1970 by Helmut Kisker. In 1972 the volleyball players followed, in 1977 the badminton division.

Table tennis

The women's team reached the league in 1991. In 1997 Ildikio Imamura, Nadine Bollmeier , Jessica Göbel and Christiane Robrecht achieved promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga, in 1998 with newcomer Melissa Muller (Netherlands) the march through to the 1st Bundesliga. In 2000, the team came third in the play-offs, where they lost in the two finals against FC Langweid . In the 2002/03 season, the 2nd women's team also appeared in the 2nd Bundesliga. In the 1st BL the 1st team played until the 2009/2010 season, after which the team with manager Franz-Josef Lingens moved back to the 2nd Bundesliga due to lack of money. In 2014 he was promoted to the first table tennis league. The team is looked after by Alexander Michajlova and Nico Mittelham and, since the beginning of the 2013/2014 season, by the physiotherapist Marco Congia.

history

The footballers had belonged to the Paderborn district class since 1945 and were runner-up there in 1957 behind TuRa Elsen . A year later, the club moved to the district class Lippe and promptly rose again from bottom of the table. After the direct resurgence, the Driburger were runner-up behind RSV Waddenhausen in 1962 . Four years later, it went back to the district class before being promoted again in 1969. The most successful period began in the early 1980s. After being runner-up in 1980 and 1981 behind TSV Rischebau and SC Bad Salzuflen , in 1982 they were promoted to the regional league . There the team met their rivals SpVg Brakel , with whom the Driburger fought for promotion to the association league in the 1985/86 season . The highlight was the Brakeler's 3-2 victory in Bad Driburg in front of 3,500 spectators. Brakel finally became champion before Bad Driburg.

In 1988, the team was relegated to the district league and returned to the national league in 1991 after a runner-up in 1990 behind SV Höxter . After relegation in 1996, the team was passed into the district league A a year later. In 2002 and 2006 the Driburger were each runner-up, more likely in 2010 they returned to the district league. Three years later, he was relegated to the district league A, where he was directly promoted to the district league under the two-time GDR national player Heiko Bonan as a coach. After only one season, the team was relegated to the district league A. In 2020, the Driburg runners-up behind SV Höxter .

Stadion

The venue for the soccer players from TuS Bad Driburg is the Iburg Stadium with a capacity of 6,000 seats. The game is played on artificial turf . The playing area is surrounded by an athletics track.
