Jessica Göbel (born October 22, 1981 in Siegen ) is a former German table tennis player .

youth

Göbel started her career at TuS Niederschelden at the age of ten , moved to DJK Weidenau in the association league and finally to DJK VfL Willich in the regional league. She was always coached by Michél Dekein, the father of the national player Nicole Dekein . Later she joined the TuS Bad Driburg . In 1996 she came second at the German school championships. In 1999 she won the German youth championship, in doubles with Laura Stumper and in mixed with Dominik Halcour she reached the final. A year later she won the junior title in singles and doubles with Meng Xiang . In 1999 she took second place in the DTTB TOP12 youth ranking tournament.

Adults

Göbel left TuS Bad Driburg in 1999 and played in several clubs with the women's teams in the Bundesliga and in France:

With Montpellier she won the French team championship in 2008. In the 2009/10 season she was German team runner-up with TV Busenbach.

At the national German championships she reached the final three times and the semi-finals seven times by 2012:

In 2003 she won the national ranking tournament DTTB TOP12 . At the DTTB Top 48 national ranking tournament in 2010 she took second place, while in the same year she was sixth in the national ranking final. In both 2009 and 2010 she was ranked 16th in the German rankings. In 2020 she was German runner-up in women's doubles alongside Tanja Krämer .

International

From 2000 to 2006 Göbel competed in more than 25 ITTF Pro Tour tournaments.

In 2001 she was nominated for the world championship . In the individual, she survived the first round against Judith Herczig (Austria), but then lost to Wong Ching (Hong Kong). In mixed with Lars Hielscher , she was eliminated in the first round against Damien Éloi / Anne-Sophie Gourin (France). With the German women's team, she reached 9th place.

She took part in European championships twice, namely in 2002 and 2005 . In 2002 she became vice European champion with the women's team. In 2005 she went one round in the singles against Phai Pang (France), then she was stopped by Iveta Vacenovská (Czech Republic). In mixed played with Ryan Jenkins from Wales and lost to Bastian Steger / Laura Stumper in the first round .

Private

The Niederndorferin Göbel completed an apprenticeship as an office clerk. Around 2004 she was accepted into the sports promotion group of the Bundeswehr .
