DJK VfL Willich (officially: DJK-Verein für Leibesübungen 1919 Willich e.V. ) is a sports club from Willich in the Viersen district . The first women's table tennis team played in the 2nd Bundesliga for two years. The first women's soccer team once took part in the DFB Cup .

history

The club goes back to the Willich grass sport club founded in 1919 . Twenty years later, this had forced the Willicher gymnastics club and the table tennis club Willich the Association for Physical Education Willich merge. After the war, the Willich gymnastics club separated and became independent again. The second parent club is the DJK Blau-Gelb Willich, founded in 1927 . Both clubs merged in 1966 to form today's DJK VfL Willich. In addition to table tennis and football, the club offers badminton , popular sports , budō , athletics , model flying , rugby , dancing , trampoline gymnastics and volleyball . With around 2,400 members, it is the city's largest association.

Table tennis

The table tennis department was brought in by the DJK Blau-Gelb Willich. The women's team played a total of 14 years in the Regionalliga West. From 2007 to 2009 the women from Willich played in the 2nd Bundesliga.

Soccer

The soccer players from Willich, who were playing in the regional league at the time, reached the final of the Lower Rhine Cup in 1996, in which they met GSV Moers . The women from Willich qualified for the DFB Cup. There, the team scored on a bye in the first round in round two of the Bundesliga club FC Eintracht Rheine and subject clearly with 00:10. The club does not currently provide a women's team.

The club's men's team plays in the district league.

volleyball

In the 2017/18 season, the volleyball department, which consists of around 50 active athletes, is represented by 2 teams in the BFS (grassroots and recreational sports) / hobby mixed division of the Krefeld-Viersen volleyball district. The catchment area extends over the regions of Amern, Brüggen, Grefrath, Hinsbeck, Kempen, Krefeld, St. Tönis, Viersen, Vorst, Waldniel and Willich with their respective districts.

The Krefeld-Viersen volleyball district is supported by the West German Volleyball Association ( WVV ), one of the regional associations of the German Volleyball Association ( DVV ).

In September 2016, the DJK-VfL Willich organized an open fun beach volleyball tournament on Kaiserplatz in Willich for the first time as part of the City Festival.

rugby

The rugby department was founded in 2016 and includes a men's team and a children's / youth department. The men's team currently plays in the Association League NRW.
