German table tennis championship 2020
The 88th national German table tennis championship took place on February 29th. to March 1, 2020 in Chemnitz in the Richard-Hartmann-Halle .
Ricardo Walther became German champion for the first time in singles . In the women's category, Nina Mittelham defended her title from last year. Another title defense was achieved by the men's doubles Benedikt Duda / Dang Qiu , who became champions for the third time in a row. In the women's doubles, Sabine Winter / Nina Mittelham won, in the mixed the partners "from the second row" Nils Hohmeier / Janina Kämmerer (Celle / Langstadt) won.
The series winner Timo Boll , who had already announced last year that he would no longer compete in the German championships, was missing , Ruwen Filus for family reasons and Bastian Steger . Dimitrij Ovtcharov was sick. A total of 3,800 spectators followed the games.
Since the search for a tournament organizer is becoming increasingly difficult, the DM has been shortened from three days to two days compared to previous years. To achieve this, the qualification rounds were omitted. The field of participants was reduced from 48 to 32. This was regretted by some players "from the second row", but were eliminated immediately if they lost, so they only got one single instead of at least three in previous years.
In the individual competitions, four winning sets were played, in the doubles three winning sets were enough to win.
