Fan Bo Meng (born October 16, 2000 in Würzburg ) is a German table tennis player and plays in the Bundesliga team of the TTC RhönSprudel Fulda-Maberzell .

Career

youth

Fan Bo Meng is the son of Meng Qingyu from China, who played in the Bundesliga in the 1990s and now works as a coach in Fulda. Fan Bo Meng started table tennis at the TTC RhönSprudel Fulda-Maberzell at the age of 7. In his first season in the school class he could not win a single, but he also played against eight years older opponents.

In the years that followed, he was even allowed to help out with the U18s once. In 2011 he was able to win 6 games for pupils at the Hessian championships. In the same year he was able to win 25 singles in the youth district league and even help out with the men in the district class. Here he was able to win all of his 11 singles. At the time he was 10 years old. In 2015 he became German student champion in doubles with Jannik Xu.

Transition from youth to adult

For the 2012/2013 season Meng played successfully in the third men's team of the TTC RhönSprudel Fulda-Maberzell in first place. He won 24 singles and was part of the second men's team in the Regionalliga Südwest. In the following two seasons Meng played a good role in the front pair cross and always had a positive balance.

In the 2015/2016 season he was allowed to play a game in the Bundesliga for the first time. However, he lost against Bojan Tokič in three straight sets. In addition, he was able to win the tournament of the top 24 young people in Germany and came second in the German championships in doubles.

Promotions with the second men's team

In the 2015/2016 season, Fulda ’s second men's team still played in the Oberliga West after three consecutive promotions, they were promoted to second division in 2017/2018. Meng always played in the front pair cross and was taken over into the first men's team for the 2019/2020 season . Here he was able to win two singles, once against Robin Devos and once against Anders Lind .

successes

In 2017 Meng was able to defend his title among the top 24 youngsters . He also became European team champion and German doubles champion. In 2018 he again won the German championships in doubles and was runner-up in singles. In the same year he was able to prevail against the twelve best youth players in Germany and won the tournament. In the same year he achieved his first big international victory at the Swedish Open , where he finished 3rd in the end.

In 2019 he also played at the German Open , but he lost his opening game against Ioannis Sgouropoulos with 2: 4 sets. At the Belarus Open 2019 he could only be defeated after three rounds by the experienced French table tennis player Emmanuel Lebesson . The U21 Spanish Open in 2020 graduated from Meng in second place.

In 2020 he was able to win the Hessian championships, at the German championships he failed due to Dang Qiu .
