Michael Pfaender

Michael Pfaender (* 1964 ) is a German cellist .

Life

Michael Pfaender was born in 1964 into a family of musicians. His father Matthias Pfaender (1939–2001) was the solo cellist of the Staatskapelle Berlin . Pfaender studied cello with Friedrich Milatz at the Carl Maria von Weber Academy of Music in Dresden .

In 1986 he got his first engagement as deputy solo cellist at the Handel Festival Orchestra Halle . From 1988 to 1992 he was the first solo cellist of the Great Radio Orchestra Leipzig. Since 1992 he has held the same position in the MDR symphony orchestra .

Between 1995 and 2005 he was guest solo celist with the Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden . In addition, he was a guest at a. with the Konzerthausorchester Berlin , the Kammerorchester Berlin and the Staatskapelle Weimar . From 2011 to 2016 he was repeatedly solo cellist at the Deutsche Oper Berlin . Concert tours have taken him through Europe, Asia and the USA.

In chamber music he has been active in the Dresden String Trio since 1995. He is also a member of Ludwig Güttler's Bach Collegium in Leipzig . He often plays as a guest with the Virtuosi Saxoniae and the New Bachisches Collegium Musicum

He plays a cello made by Pietro Antonio dalla Costa (1742).
