Michael Portnoy

Michael Portnoy (* 1971 in Washington, DC ) is an American performance artist .

life and work

Portnoy studied comparative literature and creative writing at Vassar College and studied theater at the Eugene O'Neill Theater Institute . Portnoy lives and works in New York City , where he started various experimental theater projects that lasted for a short time. He then began to work in the performance sector. In his dance and stand-up comedy performances, he uses a variety of media, including sculpture, painting , writing , theater, video . The audience is allowed to participate in some of his performances. One of his main subjects is the manipulation of language and behavior.

Michael Portnoy is represented at numerous exhibitions at home and abroad. Mention should be made of: 2012 dOCUMENTA (13) in Kassel; 2013 The Kitchen , New York; 2014 Stedelijk Museum , Amsterdam; 2015 Center Georges-Pompidou , Paris and 2016 Witte de With in Rotterdam.
