Life

Regner studied at the German University of Physical Culture (DHfK) and in 1976 submitted his diploma thesis on the subject of "On questions of motor learning ability as a suitability criterion in the 2nd selection step (ESA)". He worked as a sports officer in Havelberg , and from December 1978 onwards he worked as a swimming coach at ASK Potsdam . Among other things, he was jointly responsible for the 14 gold medals of the GDR swimmers at the European Championships in 1989 in Bonn . In March 1990, Regner explained to the news magazine Der Spiegel that an association doctor at the ASK Potsdam had asked him in 1987 to give unauthorized doping agents ( anabolic steroids ) to underage swimmers, which he had done. Regner told the Spiegel that he had doped the girls "without me or them being aware". Even swimmers of a later training group at ASK Potsdam gave Regner his own statement after doping drugs at the behest of the club doctor and became "something of a secret carrier", he had "slipped into the role of accomplice", Regner told the mirror . According to his own statement, Regner made self-experiments with anabolic steroids in the late 1980s.

In 1989 Regner applied for a tourist visa for Bulgaria , but instead fled via Hungary to the Federal Republic of Germany . He worked as a swim coach at EOSC Offenbach and then in New Zealand . In 1991 he published the book “Success training for mental and physical preparation for top athletic performance”.

From 1992 Regner was a trainer at SV Wacker Burghausen and worked there for years, he also looked after Christof Wandratsch as well as other athletes .
