Michael Suess

Michael Suess (born December 25, 1963 in Munich ) is a German manager . Süß is currently Chairman of the Board of Directors of OC Oerlikon , a global technology group listed on the SIX Swiss Exchange, and 1st Deputy Chairman of the Austrian electricity company Verbund AG. From 2015 to 2016 he was managing director of Georgsmarienhütte Holding GmbH .

Career

Süß studied mechanical engineering at the Technical University of Munich and gained his first professional experience as a technical employee in the foundry at BMW . In 1989 he began his professional career as a production engineer at BMW in Munich. In 1991 he was appointed Head of Planning Department of the Factory business. In 1994 he received his doctorate at the Institute of Labor Science at the University of Kassel Dr. rer. pole.

After positions at BMW, IDRA Presse SpA in Italy and Porsche AG , Süß was appointed to the management board of Mössner AG in Munich in 1999. After the takeover by the Georg Fischer Group , Süß was chairman of the management board of GF Mössner GmbH.

In 2001 he took on the role of Managing Director of MTU Aero Engines GmbH in Munich and was responsible for production, development and purchasing. After the company went public, Süß moved to the Executive Board of MTU Aero Engines Holding AG, where he was responsible for the technology department.

In 2006, Süß went to Siemens AG and became a board member in the Power Generation business unit. In 2008, Süß became CEO of the Fossil Power Generation Division. From April 2011 to May 2014, Süß was a member of the Managing Board of Siemens AG and CEO of the Energy Sector . In his role as CEO of the Energy Sector of Siemens AG, Süß was actively involved in the debates on how the energy transition in Germany can be achieved safely, sustainably and, above all, financially viable.

Since 2010, Süß has also been on the supervisory board of Herrenknecht AG, a world market leader in mechanical tunneling technology from Germany. From 2015 to 2016 he took over the chairmanship of the management of the privately owned Georgsmarienhütte Holding GmbH , a group of different steel processors in Germany. Since April 2015, Süß has been Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Swiss industrial group OC Oerlikon and 1st Deputy Chairman of the Austrian electricity company Verbund AG.

Michael Süß has been a lecturer at the Technical University of Munich since 2013, which awarded him the title of “Honorary Professor at the Technical University of Munich” in September 2015.
