Michael "Mike" Schüssler (born December 5, 1956 ) is a former German soccer player and coach .

Career

Schüssler joined the SV Waldhof Mannheim in 1966 and moved to the professional team in 1975 (2nd Bundesliga). He made his second division debut at the age of 18 on November 22, 1975 when coach Anton Rudinsky replaced him in the game against SSV Jahn Regensburg (5: 1) in the 75th minute. He then played in this league with Waldhof until 1981 (last year under coach Klaus Schlappner , who led Waldhof to the Bundesliga in 1983) and then moved to the major league for VfR OLI Bürstadt . When the Bürstadt team rose to the second division (1984), he was no longer a member of the VfR squad. Later he was still active for VfR Mannheim and FV Hockenheim 08 .

After the end of his career as a player, he was assistant coach under Stephan Groß at the clubs FV 09 Weinheim , SV Sandhausen , VfB Leimen and SV Mörlenbach . From 1996 to 1998 he was the coach of the B-youth team at SV Waldhof Mannheim , and in the 2003/04 season he was the assistant coach of the first team, for which Viktor Olscha was the head coach at that time . Then Schüssler became SVW youth coordinator. Since July 1, 2007, he and Stephan Groß have headed the Waldhof-Mannheim youth performance center on Alsenweg, which Dietmar Hopp supports through his “Anpfiff ins Leben” foundation.

Schüssler has been awarded the SV Waldhof Golden Badge of Honor.
