Klaus "Schlappi" Schlappner (born May 22, 1940 in Lampertheim ) is a former German football player and coach .
career
Klaus Schlappner ( "Schlappi" ) was active as a football player for the clubs Olympia Lampertheim , VfB Lampertheim, FV Biblis, VfR Bürstadt , VfR Ludwigshafen and Southwest Ludwigshafen , where he played four games in the second-class regional league in the 1965/66 season for the latter club Southwest denied.
His first coaching positions were at FC Alemannia Groß-Rohrheim 1911 eV and FV Biblis. From 1977 to 1980 he was assistant coach at SV Darmstadt 98 , first under Lothar Buchmann , then later under Jörg Berger and Werner Olk . From April to June 1979 he was temporarily responsible for the team as interim coach after Buchmann had left the club for VfB Stuttgart . In 1980 he completed his training as a soccer teacher at the Sports University in Cologne.
From 1980 he coached the then second division team SV Waldhof Mannheim . With this club he made it to the Bundesliga in 1983 . After four successful years in the Bundesliga, he left SV Waldhof Mannheim in 1987.
Later he coached the teams FC Carl Zeiss Jena , SV Darmstadt 98 , 1. FC Saarbrücken . On January 14, 1996, he was again coach of SV Waldhof Mannheim, which was playing in the 2nd Bundesliga at that time. He was released in October of the same year.
Between 1992 and 1995 Schlappner went to China , where he became the coach of the Chinese national soccer team and technical advisor to the local soccer association. An engagement in Iran followed in 2000/2001 . There he trained the Club Paykan Tehran and was instrumental in the introduction of a professional league in Iran.
In 2006, Klaus Schlappner was employed by the German NOK to promote sporting relationships with third world countries within the framework of foreign cultural policy. In this context he was also briefly active as a trainer for children and youth trainers in Mongolia .
On April 8, 2008, Sun, Dean of the Sports University in Shijiazhuang , presented Klaus Schlappner with the title of honorary professor. In his lectures, Klaus Schlappner primarily conveys the basics and techniques of football education.
Trademark
Schlappner's trademarks were his pepita hat and his pithy sayings in the broad Kurpfälzer dialect . For example, he called his Mannheim team after a defeat against Borussia Mönchengladbach as "FC Hühnerhaufen".
politics
Klaus Schlappner stood “in protest” against the 1968 movement in the local elections in Hesse in 1968 in his home town of Lampertheim for the NPD . However, he resigned after a year and has no sympathy for right-wing extremists.
When some spectators showed Tibet flags in a test match of China's U20 team at TSV Schott Mainz in November 2017 , Schlappner intervened as an “advocate” for the guests and insulted the audience.

Schlappner has three children. His son Volker (* 1964) played a second division game for Darmstadt 98.
