Michael Schaffrath

Michael Schaffrath (* 1966 ) is a German communication scientist whose research and teaching activities focus on the field of sports journalism. He is a professor in the department for media and communication at the Technical University of Munich .

Life

Schaffrath studied journalism, modern history and political science at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster . There he received his doctorate in 1996. He then worked as a research assistant at the German Sport University Cologne , the University of Lüneburg , the TU Dresden , the University of Koblenz and the University of Gießen . He worked as a sports journalist for the sports information service as well as for Aachener Nachrichten , WDR , RTL and Antenne Münster, among others .

In 2006 he completed his habilitation at the Technical University of Munich , where he has been teaching at the sports faculty since 2000. His main research interests are sports journalism, sports PR, sports on the radio, sports commentary on television, and journalism and doping.

Schaffrath gave numerous lectures at home and abroad. He is the author and co-author of sports communication topics in the form of book publications and articles in specialist journals. He is also the editor of the “Sports Journalism” series at LIT Verlag .
