Michael Scheirl (born May 30, 1953 in Salzburg ) is an Austrian painter of asphalt art , which is most closely related to Pop Art .

Life

Michael Scheirl spent his youth in Salzburg, in 1977 he graduated from the school for interior design in Stuttgart-Feuerbach . From 1985 to 1990 he completed an apprenticeship at the " Art School Zurich ". The artistic activity at that time comprised works with oil on canvas as well as wood and iron sculptures with acrylic.

Scheirl was an avid motocross driver in his younger years and is currently still in action as an ice hockey player. Since 1998 he has been dealing with the subject of streets. Picture boards were created, the surface of which was treated with original asphalt and original road markings . Thus the road is transferred from the horizontal to the vertical.

The works shown address the variety of signs on the street from different countries, from advertising to political slogans, but also show things that have been lost, thrown away or simply left lying around.
