Michael Schudrich (born 1955 in New York , USA ) has been Chief Rabbi of Poland since 2004 and looks after the parishes in Łódź and Warsaw .

Career

Michael Schudrich originally comes from New York, where he was born into a Jewish family of emigrants from Poland. In 1977 he graduated (BA) from Stony Brook University in religious studies, after which he was trained as a rabbi at the Jewish Theological Seminary before taking his MA in history from Columbia University in 1982 .

From 1983 to 1989 he worked as a rabbi in Japan and then moved to the Ronald S. Lauder Foundation in Warsaw, where he stayed until 1998. Since 2000 he has been rabbi in Łódź and Warsaw, and in December 2004 he was elected Chief Rabbi of Poland.
