Michael Sobek (born October 20, 1944 ) is a former German soccer player who was active in second division soccer in East Berlin in the 1960s and 1970s .

Athletic career

The junior departments of ASK Vorwärts Berlin , the company sports association (BSG) SG Weißensee and SC Dynamo Berlin were the first stops in Michael Sobek's football career. In 1965, the 21-year-old Sobek moved from the SC Dynamo Reserve to the second-rate GDR league club SG Dynamo Hohenschönhausen . There he was immediately used in the league team in the 1965/66 season and played 21 of the 30 point games. As a left winger, however, he only scored three goals. After the season, the soccer section of the SG was incorporated into the newly founded BFC Dynamo as the 2nd team and took over the place in the third-class East Berlin city ​​league . The BFC II was city champion with Sobek in 1967, but could not be promoted because the 1st team of the BFC was relegated to the GDR league. In 1968 the BFC II defended the championship title and qualified for the GDR league via the promotion round. In the next two seasons Sobek was a regular at BFC II, in the 60 league games played, he was only missing in one game in 1969/70. In 1970/71 he was only used twelve times in the 26 league games played, but was successful with four goals.

For the 1971/72 season, Sobek moved to league competitor EAB Lichtenberg 47 . There, too, he became a regular player in the first two seasons and was Lichtenberger's top scorer with six goals in 1972 and ten goals in 1973. In the following seasons, the thirty-year-old stepped shorter and was only used in 45 matches in the 88 GDR league games played until 1976/77. From the 1974/75 season on, Sobek trained his team as a trainer. 1979/77, the Lichtenberger rose from the GDR league. Then Michael Sobek said goodbye after ten GDR league seasons as a competitive footballer. He could look back on 162 appearances in the second division, in which he scored 38 goals.
