Michael Stephanides (* 1953 in Vienna ) is an Austrian organist , chamber musician , university professor and director of studies at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna .

Life

Stephanides studied organ (concert subject) at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna with Rudolf Scholz , and received the concert diploma with distinction in 1979. He also studied musicology and art history and received his doctorate in 1982 with the dissertation Wenzel Birck (Pürk), Leben und Werk eines Viennese court musician at the turn from baroque to classical. In 2004 he completed his habilitation in organ at the Joseph Haydn Institute for Chamber Music and Special Ensembles at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. He obtained another academic degree in 2007 after studying law at the University of Vienna .

Michael Stephanides has been married to Hannelore Stephanides since 1982 and has three daughters.

Since 1987 he has been teaching the subjects of organ , music theory, figured bass, score and sight reading, improvisation , accompaniment , organ for pianists and harpsichordists as a university teacher at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna .

Since 1989 he has been active in university politics and on academic committees. He is a member and trustee spokesman in the Academic Senate , in the Works Council , and since 2004 he has been Director of Studies (monocratic body in study law matters) at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna . He is also a board member of the university teachers' association.
